Private Mentorship
Heal what's in the way. Wake up to what's underneath.
The Invitation
Something brought you here. Maybe it's the anxiety that won't quit no matter how much you understand it. Maybe it's the way you shut down in the moments that matter most — with your partner, your kids, yourself. Maybe your meditation practice feels dry, or your therapy has taken you as far as it can go. Maybe you just know there's more available to you than what you're currently living.
▸ I work with people who've done a lot of inner work and are ready for something different. Not more analysis. Not more insight. Something that actually lands in the body and changes how you move through your days.
▸ If you're a therapist, healer, or practitioner who needs your own deep work — not another training or supervision group — this is also for you. Many of my clients are professionals in this field who need a space where they can be the one on the table.
The Real Work
I work with the body in order to access the unconscious — to get directly to the core of what has been causing you to suffer. We access the body because it is the gateway to the truth beyond our neurotic mental activity. Not a story about what happened to you. The truth underneath the story.
▸ But healing isn't the destination. It's the doorway. Beyond the trauma, beyond the nervous system dysregulation, beyond the relational patterns that keep cycling — there is something else waiting. Your own aliveness. Your own power. A deeper truth about the nature of your being that no amount of therapy or self-help is going to hand you.
▸ What I'm offering is a profound transformation. I help people heal so that they can grow up, wake up, and serve fully in their lives. I am working to initiate people into their power and wisdom — and ultimately into a direct encounter with who they actually are beneath the conditioning.
▸ I rarely say it this plainly on a website. But this is the real work.
Who This Is For
This is for people who are ready for something more — more edgy, more enlivening, more real than what they've been offered before. You've probably done therapy. You might meditate. You've done enough inner work to know that something deeper is available, and you're tired of circling the surface.
▸ You might be a therapist or healer who needs your own deep work — not another training, not another supervision group, but someone who can see you and take you further than you can take yourself. You might be a practitioner who senses that your spiritual life and your emotional life have been running on separate tracks, and you want them to converge.
▸ Or you might not have language for any of this yet. You just know that the life you're living doesn't match the life you sense is possible, and you're ready to find out why.
▸ The common thread: you're not looking for comfort. You're looking for truth.
What Makes This Different
There are a lot of somatic practitioners. What I offer is different because of what I bring into the room beyond the modality. I've spent over 500 days in silent meditation retreat. I've trained in trauma resolution, attachment repair, shadow work, group process, and sacred intimacy. I've worked in disaster zones and war zones. I've done my own deep healing — in my body, in my relationships, in the hardest corners of my own psyche. All of that is in the room with us.
▸ This means we're not just "doing SE." We're working with your whole life — your nervous system, yes, but also your relationships, your sense of who you are, your connection to something deeper than your conditioning. I track the body, but I also track the being. Most somatic work stays clinical. Most spiritual work bypasses the body. I hold both, and that's where the real shifts happen.
▸ The other thing people say about working with me is that they feel truly seen — sometimes for the first time. I'm not performing neutrality. I'm fully in it with you. My presence is the tool. When you feel met by someone who isn't afraid of what you're carrying, something in your system relaxes in a way it can't on its own.
How We Work
Sessions are 50 minutes, over Zoom or in person in Vermont. We start with what's alive for you — what's happening in your body, your relationships, your life right now. From there, I follow the thread. Using Somatic Experiencing, Dynamic Attachment Repatterning, mindfulness, and whatever else the moment calls for, we work directly with the material where it actually lives — in your physiology, in your relational patterns, in the places you've been avoiding.
▸ I don't follow a script. Every session is different because you're different every time you show up. Some sessions are quiet and internal. Some are intense and cathartic. Some sessions we barely talk — we're just tracking what's moving in your body. The common thread is that we're always working with what's real, right now, and we're doing it together.
▸ Over time, the trauma resolves. The nervous system settles. The relational patterns shift. And then something else begins to emerge. The ground clears, and you start to discover who you are without the armor, without the stories, without the identity you built to survive. This is where the real transformation lives. Not in fixing what's broken — in waking up to what was never broken in the first place.
Private Mentorship
The deepest work happens over months, not sessions. Mentorship is my primary offering because initiation takes time. Trust takes time. The layers reveal themselves gradually, and the real breakthroughs come when you've built the capacity and the relational ground to receive them.
▸ Weekly sessions, between-session practices, and my direct mentorship across somatic healing, attachment repair, contemplative practice, and embodied leadership. This is a sustained container for transformation — not a series of appointments.
▸ The people who commit to this describe it as the most significant investment they've made in themselves. Not because of any single moment, but because of who they become over the course of it.
Not Ready to Commit?
If you want to experience the work before entering mentorship, I offer single deep-dive sessions. Come in, feel what this is, and we'll both know if it's right. Many of my mentorship clients started with a single session.
Testimonials
"When I started working with James, my nervous system was in shambles. On the verge of panic, one session took me from a 10 to a 3 and suddenly I was able to breathe again. Without explaining anything verbally, James is able to meet me. He can meet the stuck energy and together we navigate it. I've never met anyone like him."
— Megan Gesell"He helped me connect with my body in a way that was gentle, grounded, and entirely new to me. So many people are afraid to tune into their bodily sensations — because doing so can feel overwhelming or even frightening. But the tools James shared helped me access those parts of myself without becoming dysregulated. Working with him gave me access to a deeper sense of safety and authenticity — something I didn't know was possible."
— Jay Gruben"My experience with James is richer than anything I have experienced in traditional therapy; it's a reparative attachment experience with added bonuses of his expertise and passion related to somatic work and his deep personal connection with mindfulness and meditation. I find courage to push forward on my journey of healing, and growth in spirit and soul, from knowing James is walking quietly beside me."

-
No. I'm not a licensed therapist. I'm a Somatic Experiencing practitioner, attachment repair specialist, and contemplative practitioner with over 500 days of silent retreat. This work is body-based and spiritually grounded in a way therapy typically isn't. Many of my clients see a therapist alongside this work — the two complement each other. What I offer tends to reach what talk can't.
-
No. Some of my clients are serious dharma practitioners. Others have never sat a retreat. You don't need any particular framework. You just need to be willing to feel what's actually happening in your body and be honest about what you find.
-
Because the kind of transformation I'm offering doesn't happen in isolated hours. It happens through sustained relationship, trust built over time, and the gradual stripping away of layers that can't be rushed. Single sessions are available — but the depth of this work reveals itself over months.
-
Weekly sessions — roughly 12 for 3 months, 24 for 6 months. Plus between-session practices and direct support. We'll tailor the structure on the discovery call.
-
Yes. Somatic Experiencing translates fully over video. Most of my clients work with me remotely.

It is. And the people who do this work describe it as the most significant investment they've made in themselves. If cost is a real barrier, let's talk about it on the discovery call. I'd rather have an honest conversation than have you not reach out.
